The first reviews have appeared for the Fifth of July. They have been really good. To quote the review by the NY Times Theater critic which was just posted. "..."Mr. Leonard and Ms. Posey are excellent ..."
Can't get much better than that! Yesss!

Parker has done exceptionally well with the critics. The NYTimes said she was excellent, the Village Voice-excellent, NY POST -delightful, NY Sun Vibrant and basically lit up the stage when she was on it. Most of the other revs were along that line. The only poor review was from the Financial Times of London, which claimed that she blew lines and that her comedic timing was off(amazing that the 11 other critics in their reviews didn't seem to notice any of this, isn't it, so I think that review is way off base)

A couple of late reviews have arrived, so Parker's score with the critics is basically
3-excellent
5-very good
1-hated the play, but thought the actors were good
3-Parker's performance was poor
the two others that in addition to the Financial Times that thought that were USA Today and Bergen County(NJ). Both of them hated the play overall and hated Parker's performance, all the negative reviews made comments that were completely opposite of the other reviewers, it is hard to believe that they all actually saw the same play.

There is an article today in the NY Times about the tremendous
success of Fifth of July . Because of the rave reviews it has
gotten, it looks like the play will be a sellout. Signature is adding four additional Sunday night performances beginning on Feb.
16(the Peter Norton Theater where it is playing is very small and intimate, it seats only 160 persons). What's more, the producers are considering an extension of its limited run beyond March 9. The main snag to that may be the upcoming schedules of its stars, Robert Sean Leonard , who will be beginning rehearsals shortly for another major play, and also Parker's schedule, since she does so many films.

I saw Fifth of July a few weeks ago and I thought it was very good. Parker's character is kind of wild and she did a really good job. She was really funny. Overall, the whole cast was really good. If you get a chance to go you should because if you wait in the lobby afterwards you will be able to meet Parker and the rest of the cast.
